FLOVV: Futurecop! Interview

  1. Futurecop! Interview

Who are you in real life?

Manzur Iqbal (Manchester), Peter Carrol (London) and Taylor Swift

What do you use to make your songs sound so retro?

VHS tapes of cartoons and sci fi movies such as dreams, saint seiya, thundercats, willow, neverending story, a pirated computer programme called reason, my uncle’s old midi keyboard, imported german haribo, Amiga 500 Demo Discs, Fragranced lip balms - Agatha Ruiz De La Prada (Tutti Fritti Flavour).

A couple of your tracks have been used for hip hop songs. Are you planning on doing more tracks for rappers, a bit like The Bloody Beetroots did with The Cool Kids or Marracash?

its whatever sounds good, we do get a lot of rappers asking. We’ve even had rappers using our songs without our permision on american tv, claiming its theirs! but i wont tell u who they.  We just want to create something thats magical.

It’s been more than a year since your last EP. Are you planning on releasing some new tracks?

We’ve made some really cool songs for releasing as singles, so we are currently looking for a record company at the moment. Also we are working on an album and new artwork thats gonna blow your mind.

Can we expect some new remixes from you?

We dont do too many remixes; only if they are friends / something we absolutley love to recreate. We are more of a band rather than remixers.

You have some really cool artwork, where do you get it from?

A lot of people actually, they are always making artwork for us and we are always promoting them as much as poosible, as futurecop! is a lot to do with artwork combined with music.

    Why the 80s?

Why not - i grew up through the 90s however i always thought the 80s was more colourful, imaginative, open minded, and the music had more heart. i love the sounds, movies and cartoons, which sometimes made me an outcast at school but i guess thats what futurecop! is about. we still cant believe so many people out there like us.

When and how did you decide to make 80s-sounding music?

since i was a kid i really loved synthy power chords, but never had the money to buy keyboards. Also ive always loved 80s movie soundtracks (especially those done by stan bush) and cartoons, i wanted to recreate that sound again. There are the uplifting parts in our music however there is a certain sadness to it, it comes from growing up and  facing the real world; when we were kids everything was more innocent, so theres that sadness there and thats why we play around a lot with fantasy.

Any news on a future album?

Well still working on it may take a while but its going to blow everyone’s socks off!

The Goonies or Back To The Future?

manzur = goonies. peter = back to the future. Ahh got u there :)

    Peace out!
