flovv:Tell me a bit about yourself to start off, who are you, where do you come from, first contact with music etc...
DRUMA KINA:I'm Simei Dublinski, 25, from São Paulo, Brazil. Music has been around forever. When I was a child, my parents used to take me to the church. At that time my father was playing trombone in the church's band. That should have been my first contact with live music. I enjoyed that so much that I always asked him to take me to the band rehearsals. I was around 5 years old. As soon as I could hold a trumpet I was playing with the band. Afterwards I moved to the sax and finally to rock instruments like guitar and drums.
flovv:What are your main influences?
DRUMA KINA:Disco and Funk from the 70s and 80s. The Electro and House today sounds awesome but I like it better when it recalls classic stuff, you know, kind of touches something that's already in you.
flovv:By listening to your music, is "Saturday Night Fever" your favourite film? If not, which one is it?
DRUMA KINA:I love Saturday Night Fever and movies about the 70s like Boogie Nights and Blow. But when it comes to my favorites I'm more into experimental cinema like Herzog, Buñuel, Jodorowsky and fantasy stuff like the animations by the Studio Ghibli.
flovv:What song would you like to remix?
DRUMA KINA:I'm right now trying to make good remix of obscure disco funk tracks from the late 70s and early 80s. But it's a pain in the ass to get those tunes' beats in time. That requires hard work.
flovv:What are your future plans?
DRUMA KINA:I'm just starting off with Druma Kina, so I'm improving everything and discovering my way of doing things. I have a lot of influences to get right into my music, so I think I'm a few EPs away from thinking about an album. A record label would fit right because I need a lot of support. But right now I'm more worried about my music. I'm already producing a new EP and hopefully I will get those old funky tunes right for a DJ mix.
flovv:A record you bought and are ashamed of?
DRUMA KINA:When I was a teenager I was really into heavy metal. One day I bought Falling into Infinity by Dream Theater. I totally hated it at the first listening. I got back to the store and told the guys that the CD wasn't playing in my stereo. They said I could get another CD for the same price, so I got No World Order by Gamma Ray. That sounded good for the first minutes, but soon it got boring. I belive I have never listened to that album 3 times. By the way, a few months after, I gave a more carefully try on Falling into Infinity and ended up liking it.
flovv:Which modern artist do you admire or would like to work with?
DRUMA KINA:I love all the french guys like Daft Punk, Justice, Danger and The Phantom's Revenge. It would be great to work with people that share this same feeling.
flovv:Any plans on a tour or DJ nights?
DRUMA KINA:I decided producing my own tracks before DJing. So I never played live! I'm still practicing in my room, but things are going smoothly.
flovv:Who will win this year's World Cup?
DRUMA KINA:I'm not into football, but I hope it's someone worthy. Brazilian players are more interested in the big money of huge european teams.
